Tenglay, the industry leader in import/export & transportation in Cambodia, was faced with a challenge. They needed to build a custom ERP system for their logistics information management system to accommodate all departments’ data flow. Lacking the internal development muscle, they reached out to Slash to work together to reach their target.

The project got underway smoothly, hitting all the right notes.
The Slash team began by developing a prototype of the ERP system to confirm their assumptions on whether or not it could handle all the container status data. As well, it was necessary to deploy this system on the existing on-premise servers with their capacity, so confirmation meant the team could move forward confidently full steam ahead.
Then when the team least expected, they were met with a small bump in the road.
The old server and hard drives caused some downtime which was a blocker they had not factored for, but thankfully not a persisting one. Tenglay went about investing into the necessary upgrades for the server to resolve the issue so the team simply had to be patient till this was complete. Nonetheless, it did slow the development down a bit.
At the same time they ran into the server hard drive issues, Tenglay was planning to onboard more active company users into the system while it was already encountering a lot of issues. The hard disk drives were full due to the database size, the database could not be scaled effectively or efficiently which usually caused a delay of up to 5 to 10 minutes, and the system backups were not as reliable as they had thought them to be. So the bump in the road became a much larger and more concerning obstacle.
To get things back on track, the Slash team conducted a workshop to explain the cost of server ownership compared to using AWS cloud and how switching could help them scale and solve their current problem. Though it was noted the upfront investment would be greater, the long-term benefit outweighed the short-term setup cost. As a result, Tenglay opted to go ahead and migrate everything to the cloud along with some other development work.
From start to finish, Slash has given us the advice, expertise and confidence we needed to pull off this critical exercise. The team was flexible and supported us in the transition to this new way of working.

This gave the team the ability to streamline faster deployment via CI/CD, adding business value for Tenglay much faster with a reliable database and backup server.
Now their system provides data resiliency with low server latency. Utilizing a dual system of on premise servers combined with AWS cloud servers gave them the flexibility to lighten the load on the older on premise server while beginning the journey to eventually moving everything to the cloud. The team was able to establish a solid infrastructure foundation for Tenglay’s future roadmap!
